Moral English Story on Honesty: In a small town, there lived an old man named Prakash. He used to repair watches. Everyone in the town liked him because he was honest and did his work well.
One day, a rich man named Mr. Sharma came to the old man’s shop. He had a gold watch. He said, “This watch is very old. Now it is not working. Please repair it for me. I will pay you well.”
The old man looked at the watch. He saw that many parts inside the watch were broken. He said, “It will take me one week to repair this watch. I will need to change some parts.”

Mr. Sharma was not happy. He said, “One week is too long! I need this watch in two days for a very big meeting. If I do well in this meeting, I will get a business deal worth one million rupees. Please repair it quickly!”
The old man said, “If I repair it in a hurry, it may break again. I want to do good work, not just fast work.”
Mr. Sharma left the place in anger. While walking in the market, he saw a small shop where a young boy was repairing watches. The boy was very quick and spoke sweetly. He saw that Mr. Sharma looked worried and at once said, “Sir, you look troubled. Can I help you?”
Mr. Sharma told him about his gold watch and the big meeting. The young boy smiled and said, “Sir, you are very lucky that you met me! I am the fastest watch repairer in the city. I will fix your watch in just one night. You will not find anyone better than me.
Mr. Sharma became happy and asked, “Are you sure this watch will work properly?”
The young boy said, “Of course, Sir! I will make it just like a new watch. But since you need it quickly, I will charge extra money.”
Mr. Sharma agreed and gave him the watch. The young boy took the watch inside. In reality, he did not change the broken parts. He only cleaned the watch from outside and put an old part inside so that it could run for some time. He knew the watch would stop again soon, but he only wanted money.

The next day, the young boy gave the watch back to Mr. Sharma. He said, “Look Sir! Your watch is now just like new.” Mr. Sharma gave him extra money and went away happily.
The meeting day came. The meeting was in a big city hotel. Many important people were there. Mr. Sharma wanted to join the meeting on time. He had to show his project to everyone so that he could get the deal of 10 lakh rupees (1 million rupees).
The meeting started at 10 in the morning, and Mr. Sharma had to join at 10:30. He was resting in his hotel room. Suddenly, the watch stopped working. Mr. Sharma did not know the real time. He thought there was still time, so he stayed in his room. Meanwhile, it became 11 o’clock, but Mr. Sharma did not go to the meeting. The other businessmen thought that Mr. Sharma was not serious and gave the deal to someone else.
When Mr. Sharma reached the meeting room, it was already too late. He lost the deal. He became very sad. Just because he did not know the correct time, he lost 10 lakh rupees (1 million rupees). On top of that, he also had to pay 50,000 rupees for the hotel bill and travel. All this happened because he wanted fast work, not good work.
Mr. Sharma went back to the old man and said, “You were right. I should have listened to you. I lost so much money because I could not be patient.”
The old man smiled and said, “Good things take time. If you want good work, you must wait.”
After one week, the old man gave back the watch. Now it was working perfectly.
Mr. Sharma became happy and thanked the old man. Then he said — Today I have learned a big lesson:
If you want a good result, have patience. Do not look for shortcuts. Work done with honesty and care is always better. Sometimes, in trying to save time, you lose even more. And always trust people who are honest, not just those who speak sweetly.
